Neurofeedback Practitioner Survey

Dear AAPB Members:

My name is Nick Lofthouse, PhD, and I am an Assistant Professor-Clinical and neurofeedback (NF) researcher in the Department of Psychiatry at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. My colleagues, L. Eugene Arnold, MD; Elizabeth Hurt, PhD; Cynthia Kerson, PhD; Roger deBeus, PhD; Laurence Hirshberg, PhD; Martijn Arns, MSc; Keith McBurnnett, PhD; and I are currently recruiting NF practitioners (who practice in the United States of America and give NF treatment to children and adolescents, age 18 and younger, with ADHD) to participate in an online survey of NF practices.

As there is no published research on this topic, and identifying practice patterns offers benefits for NF practitioners, consumers, related professional associations, and future research grant applications, we seek to advance what is known about the practice of NF for youth with ADHD in the U.S. To achieve this we propose a short (15-20 minutes) online survey. All participation is voluntary and anonymous, and does not involve collection of any information that could personally identify you. Data from the survey will be securely stored and password-protected on until study recruitment is closed on May 31, 2011. At that time it will be downloaded onto Dr. Lofthouse's password-protected computer at The Ohio State University and deleted from To educate participants and ISNR, AAPB, and BCIA members, study findings will be posted on these association's websites by July 2011. Data will also be used for journal publication, conference presentations, and to bolster future grant applications, in particular for our forthcoming NIMH R01 application for a collaborative large-scale, multi-site randomized-controlled study of NF for youth with ADHD. If this survey is successful we will also examine the possibility of conducting a similar international project and examining NF of other disorders and populations.

If you are a NF practitioner who gives NF treatment to children and adolescents age 18 and younger, in the USA, and you are interested in taking part in this survey, please go the following webpage to respond. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas Lofthouse, PhD
