Mindfulness-based interventions have become increasingly popular in the last decade. There is a wealth of empirical research supporting effectiveness of such interventions in the treatment of various psychophysiological disorders, including chronic pain and anxiety. Mindfulness practices can also enhance success of biofeedback treatment for these disorders. Mindfulness has been shown to enhance internal awareness of physiological states, facilitate passive volition, improve attention, and encourage structural and functional brain changes conducive to lower sympathetic arousal. All of these factors are vital to biofeedback success. This webinar introduces its audience to the concept of mindfulness, provides a brief overview of the relevant empirical research, teaches beginning mindfulness skills and ways to integrate these skills into biofeedback practice.

Inna Khazan, Ph.D., BCB is a Clinical Instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School, where she teaches biofeedback. Dr. Khazan is the author of Clinical Handbook of Biofeedback: A Step-by-Step Guide to Training and Practice with Mindfulness, published by Wiley Blackwell in May 2013. A clinical psychologist specializing in health psychology and biofeedback, Dr. Khazan also maintains a private practice in Boston, working with clients presenting with various psychophysiological disorders, using both biofeedback and mindfulness-based approaches to psychotherapy.
